Amazon announces that ebook sales will overtake paperbacks in 2011.

Online retail giant Amazon has revealed its prediction that Kindle ebook sales will surpass paperback sales by the end of 2011.

Kindle, the number one ebook reader in the world, has received high levels of success since it was introduced in 2007.

This announcement follows the recent news that Amazon now sells more Kindle ebooks than hardback ones via its US Kindle store.

Its popularity seems to stem from competitive pricing as all ebooks are said to cost less than their hardback counterparts and the fact that UK customers are now keen to save money by going electronic.

The latest version of Kindle will be available in the UK on Amazon from the 27th of August.
