Very very interesting. So the Blackberry becomes the all-seeing eye!

Plenty of upsides as you’ve said, but let’s also think of wives looking for their errant husbands at a party or pub! Bit of a downside for private detectives!

You are right – the children of today are saturated with technology which seems to be much more tempting for young minds than a simple book.

Hopefully there is still some magic left in the pages of novels yet to be discovered by the new generations.

Too many kids have other things to do – computers, internet, mobile phones, computer games etc. And, as my daughter said to me once, books are boring. Until she was about 20 and actually read a book.

I was lucky. My parents encouraged me to read when I was very young and we didn’t have t’internet then. I’m encouraging my grandson but the latchkey kids of today and the computer children just don’t have the interest!

Thanks for the comment Julian – and I agree wholeheartedly; it appears a convenient scapegoat. Whilst SM may have been a facilitator on this occasion, people will always find a way to communicate disorder (we had rioting long before SM). Yet the true positive power of Twitter etc. demonstrated by the clean-up operations is not mentioned.

Can’t comment on the boxer shorts or hoodies though!

Of course, this is weighted in one direction only without sufficient attention being given to the positive contribution of SM. It is just a stupid knee jerk reaction. What will they ban next? Boxer shorts or hoodies?
