Wii U UK launch cements demand for mobile gaming.

Nintendo’s latest games console – the Wii U – has been launched in the UK today.

Following its US launch earlier on this month, an official midnight launch was held at HMV’s Oxford Street in London this morning.

The eagerly awaited mobile games console offers:

  • 6.2 inch touchscreen display
  • Battery life of 3 – 5 hours
  • Wii U GamePad controller complete with camera and motion detectors
  • 8 GB internal flash memory

The launch comes after a significant increase in demand for mobile gaming, particularly on smartphones and tablets.

The console has seen success in the US, with its 400,000 unit allocation selling out in just a week.

Therefore, it is understood that Nintendo is hopeful of receiving a large number of sales in the UK.

The pre-Christmas technology market is a tough one though and some critics have argued that the original Wii console was successful due to its focus on movement-based gaming.

In contrast, whilst the Wii U does offer motion detector technology, it is a handheld device in essence.
